Cloud From The Sea is the ethereal solo electronic project of Anna Bouchard, also of Houston’s shoegaze heavyhitters Drowner, who have a forthcoming LP on SMR.
As the vocalist for Drowner, Anna is known for dark, yet uplifting vocal melodies and deeply lyrical content, vacillating from smoky alto tones to gracefully lilting bright notes produced with a rock solid harmonic core by Drowner’s Darren Emanuel.
She started Cloud from the Sea as a way to further explore her preoccupation with more open multiple voicings and lush timbral soundscapes with an almost primitive percussive backbone.
With influences ranging from the music of M83, Bat for Lashes, Washed Out and School of Seven Bells to vocalists like Morgan Kibby, Yuki Chikudate, Kate Bush, Bjork and Elizabeth Fraser, Cloud from the Sea sweeps through dramatic emotional scenes and ethereal landscapes with a pulse rooted in dark ambient club music.
“Cloud is my lab, the faraway place I go to tinker with a blend of euphoria and mysticism. What I am after is an experience of realizing myself in the Other and of exploring the ecstatic union of voice and listener.”
Anna has collaborated with bands such as Danish new wave gazers The Foreign Resort, SMR’s enchanting and majestic The Spiracles, musicians like Danny Lackey, generator of the soul-washing beauty riffs of Deepfieldview and producers like Charlie Nieland of the NYC power dream pop band Her Vanished Grace.
